Washington: US President Donald Trump shocks immigrant workers in the new year by extending the restrictions on the working visas already imposed for three months. With this, the ban will continue till 31 March 2021. President Trump signed an order related to it on Thursday.
The Trump administration’s decision states that the impact of COVID-19 on the United States labor market and the health of American communities is ongoing at the current national level. The manifesto also cites unemployment rates, pandemic restrictions on state-issued businesses, and the rise of coronovirus infection since June.
President-elect Joe Biden, who takes office on Jan. 20, has criticized the restrictions, but has not yet said whether he would immediately reverse them. At least 20 million people remain on unemployment benefits in the United States.
In October, a federal judge in California blocked Trump’s ban on foreign guest workers as it applied to hundreds of thousands of U.S. businesses that fought the policy in court. The judge found the ban would cause irreparable harm to the businesses by interfering with their operations and leading them to lay off employees and close open positions.
