Washington: Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to express frustration over delays in finalizing a key rare earth minerals agreement with Ukraine. Trump revealed that Ukraine, under the leadership of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has not yet signed the final documents required to move forward with the strategic deal, which he described as “very important” for the United States.
“The final paperwork on the Rare Earths Deal with the United States has still not been signed by Ukraine. It is at least three weeks overdue,” Trump wrote. He emphasized the urgency of the matter by stating, “Hopefully, it will be signed IMMEDIATELY.”
Rare earth elements are critical components in the production of high-tech devices, military equipment, electric vehicles, and renewable energy technologies. The United States has long sought to diversify its supply chain for these minerals, reducing reliance on China, which currently dominates the global market. A deal with Ukraine, which has substantial rare earth reserves, could represent a significant shift in U.S. strategic resource sourcing.
In the same post, Trump also gave an update on the broader geopolitical front, claiming that progress is being made in negotiations to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. “Work on the overall Peace Deal between Russia and Ukraine is going smoothly,” he added, though no specific details were provided regarding the nature of these peace efforts or the parties involved.
While Trump is no longer in office, he continues to play an influential role in American politics and foreign policy discourse. His remarks suggest a continued interest in shaping U.S. strategic partnerships and a possible vision for future diplomatic engagements, especially in regions critical to U.S. economic and security interests.
There has been no immediate response from Ukrainian officials regarding the status of the rare earth minerals agreement.
