Desk:Former U.S. President Donald Trump has granted significant relief to Israel by lifting the ban imposed by President Joe Biden on the supply of 2000-pound bombs. The ban was initially enforced by Biden to mitigate civilian casualties during Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza. Currently, the conflict between Israel and Hamas is paused due to a fragile ceasefire.
Trump announced the decision through a post on his Truth Social platform, stating, “Many items are now being delivered that Israel has already paid for but were held back by Biden.” A former Trump administration official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the post referred to the supply of heavy bombs. With these 2000-pound bombs, Israel’s military capabilities are expected to strengthen significantly.
Ceasefire Agreement with Hamas
This news comes amidst a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, where four Israeli female soldiers were paraded before a crowd by Hamas militants and later released. In exchange, Israel freed 200 Palestinian prisoners, including 120 convicted of deadly attacks on Israelis and serving life sentences. Additionally, 70 prisoners were transferred to Egypt, which played a critical role in mediating the agreement.
However, Israel has clarified that displaced Palestinians will not yet be allowed to return to their homes in northern Gaza.
