Ekadashi holds immense importance in Hinduism. According to the Hindu calendar, Ekadashi occurs twice a month—once during the Krishna Paksha (waning moon phase) and once during the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon phase). In a year, there are 24 Ekadashis in total.
The Ekadashi that falls during the Krishna Paksha of the Margashirsha month is called Utpanna Ekadashi. It is believed that on this day, Ekadashi Mata came into existence, which is why it is known as Utpanna Ekadashi. Those who wish to begin observing the Ekadashi fast are advised to start with Utpanna Ekadashi. Observing this fast is said to bring blessings equivalent to performing the Ashwamedha Yajna.
This year, Utpanna Ekadashi will be observed on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. On this day, devotees worship Lord Vishnu with proper rituals. Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and the fast is observed to seek his blessings.
