New Delhi: Terrorist attacks in Pakistan have increased after the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan and the establishment of Taliban rule there.
According to the South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP), 35 terror attacks took place in August alone, in which 52 innocent civilians were killed. Among those who lost their lives, 32 are civilians, while 20 are security personnel. This is the highest figure in four years for so many terrorist attacks in a month.
A total of 187 terrorist attacks took place in Pakistan from January 2021 to September 28, in which 317 innocent people died. However, during the year 2020, there were 193 terrorist attacks, in which 347 innocent people died. The Taliban had promised Islamabad that Afghan soil would not be used to spread terrorism in Pakistan. Despite this, terrorist attacks have increased in Pakistan.
The rise in terrorist attacks has increased insecurity among the Pakistani people, which can have a serious impact on the business environment. According to statistics, this number of terrorist attacks in a month is the highest in four years. SATP is the largest website on terrorism and low-intensity warfare in South Asia; it creates the database and analytic context for research and analysis of all extremist movements in the region. According to SATP, the terrorist organization Tehreek-e-Taliban-Pakistan (TTP) alone is responsible for most of the terrorist attacks in Pakistan in the last month. The TTP’s position has strengthened since the formation of the Taliban government.
Apart from this, many terrorists included in the list of Most Wanted of Pakistan Government have now been freed from the prisons of Afghanistan, this has also increased the danger.
There has been a growing concern in Pakistan that the spread of terrorism could worsen the investment climate in the country. It could also have an impact on ongoing projects under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). China has invested $25 billion in power plant and road-related projects in Pakistan.
