Sawan – The Month of Shiva’s Grace

In the Hindu calendar, Pradosh Vrat holds special significance, and when it falls on a Monday, it is known as Som Pradosh. This day is considered highly auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva. Observing the fast and performing rituals on this day is believed not only to bring mental peace but also to infuse positive energy and spiritual strength into one’s life.

Som Pradosh occurs during the Pradosh Kaal, the period shortly before and after sunset. During this time, it is customary to offer water, milk, yogurt, ghee, and bilva leaves to the Shiva Lingam.

From a spiritual perspective, Som Pradosh provides an opportunity for introspection—reflecting on one’s actions, thoughts, and intentions. It teaches that divine grace is received not just through external rituals, but through sincere devotion and self-discipline. Those observing the fast are encouraged to practice non-violence, truthfulness, and keep the company of virtuous individuals.

It is said that observing the Som Pradosh Vrat dispels darkness from one’s life, bringing peace, contentment, and patience to the mind. It is particularly beneficial for those facing mental stress or life’s challenges. Devotion to Lord Shiva combined with inner focus during this fast can help create positive transformations in all aspects of life.

In essence, Som Pradosh is not just a religious duty—it is a path to strengthen the soul and harmonize life. It reminds us that every challenge carries an opportunity: an opportunity to refine our mind, thoughts, and actions.
