Navratri, one of the biggest festivals in Hinduism, is currently being celebrated. During this time, devotees of Goddess Durga observe a nine-day fast. While fasting, people avoid grains, alcohol, onions, and garlic. Those who keep the fast can consume fruits and certain permissible food items once a day.
Most fasting foods are fried, which can lead to digestive issues. Additionally, long gaps between meals can also cause stomach-related problems. If you experience any digestive discomfort during the fast, you can eat Samak Curd Rice to keep your stomach cool. Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients for Samak Curd Rice
- 1 cup Samak rice (barnyard millet)
- ½ cup curd (yogurt)
- 5-6 tablespoons milk
- 1-2 green chilies
- Rock salt (Sendha Namak)
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
- 5-6 curry leaves
- Some dry fruits
- Ghee (for tempering)
