Desk:Russian President Vladimir Putin called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strongly condemn the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Expressing condolences over the death of innocent civilians, President Putin assured full support to India in its fight against terrorism. He emphasized that those responsible for this cowardly act, as well as their supporters, must face the harshest punishment.
Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared details of the conversation on social media. He posted, “President Putin called Prime Minister Modi and condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. He expressed deep condolences over the loss of innocent lives and reiterated Russia’s unwavering support for India in combating terrorism. He also stressed the need for strict punishment for the perpetrators and their enablers.”
President Putin’s call comes in the wake of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people. Since then, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated, with India continuing its diplomatic and political pressure on Pakistan. Globally, India is gaining increasing support over its stance on the issue.
Jaiswal further noted, “Apart from the discussion on the Pahalgam attack, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the special and strategic partnership between India and Russia.”
PM Modi Invites President Putin to Visit India
During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to President Putin to visit India later this year for the annual summit. He also conveyed his greetings for Russia’s 80th Victory Day celebrations.
Jaiswal said, “Prime Minister Modi conveyed his best wishes to President Putin on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Russia’s Victory Day and invited him to visit India for the annual summit scheduled later this year.”
