Each year on July 1, the National Postal Worker Day is celebrated across the globe. As the name suggests, the National Postal Worker’s Day is observed in order to create awareness about the contribution of Postal Workers in our society and encourages us to show our appreciation for all those who work consistently and tirelessly to deliver all of our mail. These employees suffer some of the harshest working conditions, yet continue to persevere six days a week. No hard weather conditions could stop them from working, including snow, sweat through temperatures, rain or even wind.
The Postal Worker Day has its roots from Seattle, USA. In 1997, a renowned postal service provider-initiated this particular day.
The postal service does much more than deliver letters and packages. It is also a bank, a pension fund and a primary savings instrument for millions of people.
In India, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, when life became locked down, the postal service personnels donned various hats, helping everyone fight back the disease. Workers in postal departments have become the new ‘corona warriors’, playing an active role in India’s fight against COVID-19.
Not only the khaki-clad ‘dakiya (s)’ have delivered the letters, parcels, exam answer papers, fruits, commodities but also delivered the COVID-19 resources such as oxygen concentrators, PPE kits, COVID test kits, ventilators and medicines.
Believe it or not but the fact is, they are the unsung ‘S/heroes’ working without pomp and show, amidst extreme dangerous conditions, sparks the hope that ‘humanism’ is not dead.
This National Postal Worker Day, let’s take time out to show gratitude to our local postal worker and delivery personnel.
A special thank you card saying, ‘Happy National Postal Worker Day’ or a small gift can bring smile to the person who delivers your courier or a pizza that you may have ordered. On social media, use #NationalPostalWorkerDay to give a shout-out to your favorite postal worker. Whether they deliver, sort, or keep things organized, July 1st is their day.
Do wish your family and friends a Happy National Postal Worker day by sharing some lovely message, or educating them about the significance of this day.
