New Delhi: Today marks the 50 years of 1971 war i.e. Victory Day. On the occasion of Victory Day, Eastern Army Commander Lt. General Anil Chauhan said, “There’ve been no major intrusions or face-offs in Eastern Command area since skirmish in Ladakh. After the Galavan incident, mutual trust and stability between us and the PLA on LAC will take time.”
Let us tell you that Bangladesh came into existence as a country after this war in 1971 and on this day, India made Pakistan bite the dust. Victory Day is celebrated on 16 December every year to mark India’s victory in liberating Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1971. On this occasion, PM Modi went to the National War Memorial and paid tribute to the heroes of 1971 war and then lit the ‘Golden Victory Torch’.
The event, organized on the occasion of Vijay Diwas, was accompanied by PM Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Vipin Rawat and the Tri-Service Chiefs. On this occasion, Prime Minister paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 war. Modi lit four victory torches at the eternal flame of the National war Memorial and sent them to various parts of the country including the villages of the Paramveer Chakra and Mahavir Chakra Awardees of the 1971 war. In addition to the villages of these awardees, the soil of the 1971 battlegrounds will be brought to the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
