Chattogram:Tensions ran high in Bangladesh as police launched a forceful crackdown on protesting Hindus following the arrest of ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das. The incident unfolded in Chattogram, where hundreds of Hindu supporters took to the streets demanding his release.
Chaos in the Streets
The protests escalated after a Chattogram court rejected Chinmoy Krishna Das’s bail plea and ordered him to be sent to jail on charges of desecrating the national flag. Supporters surrounded the prison van, blocked roads, and raised slogans against the government and administration. Despite repeated warnings from the police, the crowd refused to disperse, intensifying the situation.
Police Use Force to Control the Crowd
To manage the growing unrest, police and Border Guards resorted to baton charges and used sound grenades to disperse the demonstrators. The streets of Chattogram witnessed chaos as protesters clashed with law enforcement officials. Reports indicate that several people were injured during the police action.
Arrest and Allegations
Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested on Monday in Dhaka, following a sedition case filed on October 31 by a local BNP leader. The case accuses him and others of disrespecting the national flag. His arrest has sparked widespread anger among the Hindu community, leading to large-scale demonstrations.
Protesters Stand Firm
Despite the police’s efforts to control the situation, protesters remained adamant, deflating the tires of the prison van and continuing their demonstrations. Ultimately, the police transferred Chinmoy Krishna Das to another vehicle and took him to Chattogram Jail.
This incident has drawn significant attention, highlighting religious tensions and raising questions about the treatment of minority communities in Bangladesh.
