Washington: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Thursday that India and the United States are moving swiftly toward finalizing a “mutually beneficial trade agreement.” He made these remarks during a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump.
PM Modi emphasized, “To ensure India’s energy security, we will focus on trade in oil and gas. Investment in energy infrastructure will also increase, including in the field of nuclear energy.” He further indicated that the trade agreement should be “finalized very soon.”
A New Chapter in India-US Trade Relations
Trade discussions between India and the US have been ongoing for a long time, but recent months have seen significant progress. Experts believe that this agreement will not only strengthen bilateral trade ties but also enhance strategic and energy cooperation.
During the meeting, both leaders also agreed to expand investments in defense, technology, and energy sectors. PM Modi stressed that strengthening India-US relations would play a crucial role in ensuring “global stability and peace.”
US President Donald Trump reaffirmed America’s commitment to strengthening ties with India and stated that the US is ready to take trade and investment between the two nations to new heights.
Priority on Oil and Gas Trade
Given India’s growing energy demands, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that oil and gas trade would be a key priority. The US is already among the top suppliers of crude oil and natural gas to India, and this agreement is expected to further solidify these trade relations.
Additionally, discussions were held on increasing US investments in India’s nuclear energy projects, which could help meet India’s rising energy requirements.
Agreement to Be Finalized “Very Soon”
PM Modi stated that both governments are committed to finalizing the trade agreement “very soon.” This would provide Indian companies with greater access to US markets while also offering American businesses new opportunities to invest and expand in India.
Experts believe that this trade deal will mark a new milestone in India-US relations and contribute significantly to strengthening both economies.
