Desk:Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded Kuwait’s highest civilian honor, ‘The Order of Mubarak the Great,’ by Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. This prestigious accolade recognizes his efforts in strengthening the bilateral ties between India and Kuwait. Notably, this visit marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in 43 years.
The award, established on July 16, 1974, honors the legacy of Mubarak Al-Sabah, who served as the Sheikh of Kuwait from 1896 to 1915. Mubarak Al-Sabah is credited with securing Kuwait’s recognition as an independent state from the Ottoman Empire in 1897.
During his two-day visit, PM Modi emphasized the importance of trade and commerce in India-Kuwait relations. In an interview with KUNA, he remarked, “Trade and commerce have been pivotal pillars of our bilateral ties. Our partnership continues to grow, with energy collaboration adding unique value to our trade relationship.”
Highlighting India’s economic capabilities, Modi said, “It is encouraging to see ‘Make in India’ products gaining traction in Kuwait, especially in sectors like automobiles, electrical and mechanical machinery, and telecommunications. India today is manufacturing world-class products at the most competitive costs. Diversifying non-oil trade is key to enhancing bilateral trade.”
He also noted the potential for collaboration in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology, digital innovation, and textiles. Modi urged business communities, entrepreneurs, and innovators from both nations to engage and foster closer connections.
This historic visit underlines the growing partnership between India and Kuwait, with both nations looking forward to expanding their cooperation in multiple sectors.
