Desk:Further strengthening the historic ties between India and Mauritius, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented distinguished Indian gifts to Mauritius President Dharam Gokhool and his wife. PM Modi gifted the sacred water from the Mahakumbh and Bihar’s superfood Makhana to President Gokhool, while his wife received an exquisite Banarasi saree.
Symbolic Gifts Reflecting Indian Heritage
PM Modi presented the Mahakumbh’s holy water to President Gokhool in a brass and bronze vessel, symbolizing India’s deep cultural and religious traditions. The water was collected from the sacred Sangam, a site of immense significance in Hinduism. Alongside this, PM Modi also gifted Makhana, a nutrient-rich superfood from Bihar, known for its numerous health benefits. These gifts reflect India’s cultural and economic ties with Mauritius.
For President Gokhool’s wife, PM Modi presented a Banarasi saree, representing India’s rich craftsmanship. The saree, made with fine silk, intricate brocade, and luxurious zari work, showcased the excellence of Banaras’ traditional handloom artistry. The saree’s royal blue shade with silver zari designs added to its elegance.
Tree Plantation with Mauritius PM
Before meeting President Gokhool, PM Modi held discussions with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam and jointly planted a tree at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, symbolizing the commitment to environmental sustainability.
Warm Reception & State Banquet
PM Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome upon his arrival in Mauritius, marking his first visit to the island nation since 2015. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the significance of this visit, emphasizing the deep-rooted India-Mauritius ties.
On social media platform ‘X’, Jaiswal wrote, “This visit reflects the strong partnership between India and Mauritius.” After paying tribute to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the father of the Mauritian nation, PM Modi met President Gokhool and later attended a state banquet in his honor.
