Desk:Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a conversation with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Friday. PM Modi shared that the discussion focused on topics that were previously touched upon during their meeting earlier this year in Washington, D.C.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi stated, “Had a good conversation with Elon Musk. We discussed various subjects, including those we talked about during our meeting in Washington, D.C. We also explored potential areas of collaboration in technology and innovation. India is committed to strengthening its partnership with the United States in this direction.”
This conversation comes at a time when Elon Musk’s companies — particularly Tesla and Starlink — are showing growing interest in entering the Indian market. Tesla is in talks with Indian government officials regarding setting up a manufacturing unit in the country. Meanwhile, Starlink has initiated partnerships with Indian telecom giants Airtel and Jio to provide satellite-based internet services.
The previous meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Elon Musk took place in February during PM Modi’s visit to the United States. During the two-day trip, both leaders engaged in constructive discussions on cooperation in emerging sectors such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, and space technology.
As a gesture during their meeting, PM Modi gifted Musk’s three children a set of Indian literary works, which included Rabindranath Tagore’s The Crescent Moon, The Great R.K. Narayan Collection, and Panchatantra by Pandit Vishnu Sharma. PM Modi later shared pictures of the children reading these books, expressing his delight.
Following the meeting, PM Modi had posted, “Had a very insightful conversation with Elon Musk in Washington, D.C. We discussed several topics, including space, mobility, technology, and innovation — areas where Elon has a deep interest. I also shared insights on India’s reforms and the policy of ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’.”
