Washington: Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine was approved in the US for immediate use amid the Corona pandemic. However, Pfizer’s vaccine has brought bad news. The frequency of allergic reactions to the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine is higher than what would be expected with other vaccines. This information has been given by Dr Moncef Slaoui, Chief Scientific Advisor of ‘Operation Warp Speed’, a campaign to provide 300 million people in the US with the Corona vaccine.
Dr Moncef has reported that people with Pfizer-BioNTech Corona vaccine are seeing an allergic problem, which is more than expected. A total of eight people have been diagnosed with this vaccine. Six of these are American and two are from the UK.
The statement comes at a time when the United States has already signed a deal with Pfizer to provide 100 million additional doses of the Corona vaccine. He also pointed out that the National Institute of Health was in constant discussion with vaccine manufacturers to consider trialing in highly allergic people, especially those taking epi-pen anti-allergic drugs.
In the UK, the Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) had already issued advisories asking people not to take the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine if they had more allergic problems. The US FDA has issued a similar advisory.
What causes allergies?
Currently, the polyethylene glycol (PEG) compound is believed to be the top cause of allergy, present in the main component of the vaccine, the messenger RNA (mRNA). PEG present in Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna’s vaccine has never been used in any vaccine before. However, it is used in some medicines.
Pfizer’s corona vaccine was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in a hurry after the ever rising corona cases in America this month. The Vaccine Advisory Group had decided that the Pfizer vaccine was safe for people 16 and older. Pfizer claimed that its corona virus vaccine was more than 95 percent effective.
