Desk:Pakistani soldiers opened unprovoked fire on Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday. In response, the Indian Army retaliated effectively, inflicting heavy damage on the enemy, security officials confirmed.
Earlier, in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district, an IED blast carried out by suspected terrorists near the LoC claimed the lives of two Indian Army personnel.
Ceasefire violations along the LoC had become rare since the ceasefire agreement was reaffirmed on February 25, 2021. However, officials reported that Pakistani troops fired at a forward post in the Tarkundi area without provocation. The Indian Army responded with force, resulting in significant damage to Pakistani forces.
Meanwhile, an Indian Army Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) sustained minor injuries after stepping on a landmine in the same region. The injured officer was immediately taken to a military hospital for treatment.
Officials stated that tensions remain high along the LoC as cross-border hostilities have increased in recent days. This was the first ceasefire violation of the year and the fourth cross-border incident in just five days.
On Monday, an Indian soldier was injured by cross-border firing while guarding a forward post in the Kalal area of the Nowshera sector in Rajouri district. On February 8, terrorists opened fire on an Indian Army patrol party in the Keri sector of Rajouri, attempting to infiltrate Indian territory.
On the night of February 4-5, terrorists suffered casualties due to a landmine explosion in the Krishna Ghati sector while trying to cross the border into India.
On February 10, Lieutenant General Naveen Sachdeva, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the White Knight Corps, visited the LoC in Rajouri district to assess the security situation. The Indian Army stated, “GOC White Knight Corps, along with GOC Ace of Spades and GOC Crossed Swords Division, visited forward areas in the Rajouri sector to receive operational updates on security conditions and Pakistani activities.”
