Desk : Pakistan carried out airstrikes across the Afghan border overnight, targeting the Pakistani Taliban group (TTP), a Pakistani security official confirmed on condition of anonymity.
Last month, Pakistan launched a series of airstrikes in Afghanistan, citing a need to counter militancy following a rise in attacks on its territory. The Afghan Taliban government has denied any involvement or allowing its territory to be used for militant activity.
Kabul police spokesperson Khalil Zadran said the strikes hit homes in the capital, killing four people and injuring 15.
Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Pakistani strikes also hit Kandahar province, home to the Taliban’s supreme leader, as well as eastern provinces of Paktia and Paktika, which border Pakistan.
Pakistan insists that no civilians have been killed in the operations. Casualty figures from both sides remain difficult to verify independently.
Afghan and Pakistani forces have also clashed repeatedly along the border in recent weeks, disrupting trade and forcing nearby residents to flee their homes.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported that between February 26 and March 5, Pakistani military operations killed 56 civilians in Afghanistan, including 24 children.
According to the UN refugee agency, around 115,000 people have been displaced from their homes due to the conflict.
