Pakistan Provokes Again: Drone Strikes from Jammu to Pokhran, Blasts Rock Srinagar

Desk: Just hours after a ceasefire agreement was announced between India and Pakistan, shocking incidents were reported from Jammu & Kashmir and Rajasthan. A drone attack took place once again in Jammu’s Udhampur district, while loud explosions were heard in various parts of Srinagar. Following this, a complete blackout was enforced across the city, and air raid sirens were activated.

The tension wasn’t limited to Srinagar alone—gunfire was also reported from Baramulla and Budgam. The situation escalated to such an extent that in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, incoming air raid alerts were issued, and an emergency blackout was enforced across the district.

Reacting to the attack, Jammu and Kashmir’s former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his frustration. Posting on social media platform X, he wrote, “What happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard all over Srinagar.” The most astonishing part of the incident was that the ceasefire was violated by Pakistan on the very day the agreement was reached.

Blackouts in Several Punjab Districts

Amid the ongoing ceasefire violations between India and Pakistan, blackouts were again imposed in Punjab’s Barnala and Sangrur districts from 9 PM to 11 PM on Saturday. Hoshiarpur’s Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain informed that the decision was made based on intelligence inputs from the Indian Air Force bases in Pathankot and Adampur. Citizens were requested to stay indoors and keep their lights off during the night.

Meanwhile, the Bathinda district administration urged the public to remain calm. An official statement read, “The public has raised concerns over media reports of ceasefire violations, but there is no need to panic. We are in constant touch with all relevant agencies. If there is any major threat, timely information will be shared. Please follow updates from our official DPR page.”

India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of External Affairs had announced that both India and Pakistan had agreed to cease all forms of firing and military operations—on land, air, and sea—from 5 PM onwards on Saturday.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar shared the development in a post on X, stating, “An agreement has been reached between India and Pakistan to cease firing and military operations from today. India remains steadfast in its stance against all forms of terrorism and will continue to do so.”

Earlier, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri informed in a press briefing that the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan had called his Indian counterpart at 3:35 PM. He said, “Both sides agreed to halt all forms of military operations from 5 PM today across land, air, and sea. Instructions have been issued for the implementation of this agreement. The DGMOs will speak again at 12 PM on May 12.”
