Desk:The death toll from a terrorist attack in Pakistan’s northwestern region has risen to 50, with over 20 others injured. Authorities have described the incident as one of the deadliest attacks in recent years in the area. The attackers targeted vehicles carrying Shia Muslims in Kurram District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan. The region has witnessed severe sectarian clashes between Shia and Sunni Muslims in recent months. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
According to officials, the vehicles were traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar when terrorists opened fire on them. Among the 50 deceased were eight women and five children, with most of the victims belonging to the Shia Muslim community.
Local journalists reported that the attack occurred in areas controlled by the Taliban. Media sources revealed that the convoy consisted of over 200 vehicles.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur strongly condemned the attack and ordered a high-level delegation to visit Kurram. The delegation includes the provincial law minister, regional legislators, and the chief secretary. The Chief Minister has also directed authorities to establish a highway police unit to ensure security on all provincial routes.
Expressing condolences to the grieving families, Gandapur announced financial assistance for the victims’ families. He stated, “Targeting innocent civilians is deeply tragic and condemnable. Those responsible for this heinous act will not escape the grip of the law.”
