Islamabad: The Pakistan Army has officially inducted the first batch of Chinese-made VT-4 battle tanks into its arsenal. In a statement, the Army’s media affairs wing stated that Commande Mangla Corps Lt Gen Shaheen Mazher Mehmood conducted an inspection of the VT-4 tanks. Major General Rashid Mahmood briefed the commander about the ongoing post shipment inspections of the first batch of tanks, the statement read.
The 125mm smoothbore canon that the VT-4 is armed with allows it to engage other main battle tanks, armoured vehicles, infantry forces, light vehicles, military facilities and even low-flying helicopters. Along with the main canon, the VT-4 also operates a 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine gun and 7.62 mm co-axial machine gun. With a maximum speed of 70 km/h on highways and 50 km/h in off-road conditions, the tank has a maximum mileage of 500 km.
