Desk : Tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam. In response, the United States has urged India to exercise restraint and called on Pakistan to cooperate in bringing the perpetrators to justice. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently discussed the matter with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The attack, which occurred on April 22, claimed the lives of 26 people.
According to media reports, U.S. Vice President JD Vance spoke openly about the Pahalgam attack during a recent interview. He stated, “We hope India responds to this act of terrorism in a way that avoids triggering a broader regional conflict.” Notably, Vance was in India on a family trip at the time of the attack.
He further emphasized, “We also expect Pakistan to cooperate as much as possible with India to ensure that terrorists operating from its territory are apprehended and dealt with accordingly.”
Amid the rising tensions between the two nations, the United Nations Security Council is monitoring the situation. Evangelos Secheris, the Council’s President for the month of May, stated on Thursday that the issue remains active and could be taken up for discussion if requested. He made this remark during a press briefing.
Meanwhile, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the Modi government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. Offering condolences to the victims of the Pahalgam attack, Shah asserted that every individual responsible for the attack would be held accountable.
He paid tribute to the civilians who lost their lives and conveyed to their families that their loss is not just personal but a national tragedy. “The pain felt by the families is shared by every citizen of the country,” Shah said. He reaffirmed that the Indian government remains steadfast in its fight against terrorism, especially in Kashmir, where such activities have been ongoing since the 1990s.
