New Delhi – Amid ongoing tensions with Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened an all-party meeting on Thursday. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi were among those who attended the high-level gathering. This development comes a day after the Indian Army carried out airstrikes on nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Just before the meeting began, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval met with Prime Minister Modi at his residence. Sources suggest that the Modi government is preparing for a major offensive against terrorism.
According to media reports citing government sources, the administration and armed forces are contemplating another round of airstrikes. In Tuesday night’s operation, Indian forces targeted nine terror camps, and further strikes may be conducted on additional locations. Officials believe dismantling these camps near the border is crucial to weakening terrorist operations in Kashmir.
The all-party meeting saw participation from key government figures including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, BJP President J.P. Nadda, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. From the opposition, leaders such as Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge (Congress), Sudip Bandyopadhyay (Trinamool Congress), and T.R. Baalu (DMK) were present.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the meeting. Other notable opposition leaders in attendance included Ram Gopal Yadav (Samajwadi Party), Sanjay Singh (AAP), Sanjay Raut (Shiv Sena – Uddhav faction), Supriya Sule (NCP – Sharad Pawar faction), Sasmit Patra (BJD), and John Brittas (CPI-M). Also present were Sanjay Jha (JD-U), Union Minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan, and AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that the government aimed to brief all parties on “Operation Sindoor.” In retaliation for the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Indian armed forces launched missile strikes late Tuesday night on nine terrorist strongholds in Pakistan and PoK, including the Jaish-e-Mohammed base in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s hub in Muridke.
These strikes under “Operation Sindoor” come two weeks after the massacre of 26 civilians in Pahalgam. An earlier all-party meeting had been called on April 24 to inform political leaders about the attack.
