Desk: A ceasefire was announced between Israel and Hamas this morning, but it seems the battle is far from over. Gaza’s Health Ministry has claimed that despite the ceasefire declaration, Israel has killed 72 people in attacks that took place today. Additionally, in the past 24 hours, 81 people have reportedly died due to Israeli airstrikes. This raises questions about whether the ceasefire will hold or if the conflict is set to continue. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has yet to respond to these allegations.
However, Netanyahu has accused Hamas of backtracking on certain aspects of the ceasefire agreement. Speaking on Thursday, he said, “It is premature to say that the ceasefire is in effect, as Hamas is not honoring several key terms of the agreement.” His statement was followed by multiple attacks in Gaza, which is under Hamas control. Reports indicate that 81 people were killed in these strikes. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump is also making efforts to mediate and ensure the ceasefire holds.
Netanyahu further stated that Hamas has not yet fully accepted the ceasefire and has failed to implement critical provisions of the agreement. The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an incursion into Israeli territory, killing 700 Israelis and abducting many others. Since then, the war has claimed the lives of 46,788 people and left over 110,000 injured. The violence has also led to a humanitarian crisis, with nearly 5 million people displaced from their homes.
As the conflict drags on with no clear resolution in sight, concerns grow over the feasibility of a lasting ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
