We often forget to recognise the sacrifices our mothers make. Mother’s Day is the day to make her feel special and loved. Mother’s Day is celebrated to honour mothers and the invaluable role they play in our lives. Celebrated on the second Sunday of May, it is believed the modern Mother’s Day celebration first began in the US, when a woman by the name of Anna Jarvis wanted the day to be commemorated because her own mother had expressed such a desire.
When she passed away, Jarvis held a memorial for her, circa 1908, three years after her death. It was done at St Andrew’s Methodist Church in West Virginia. It is said while she herself did not attend it, she sent a telegram to the attendees, highlighting the significance of the day, along with five hundred white carnations. What started as Jarvis’ way of honouring her mother, got picked up by other countries over the years, as a way to love, cherish and honour mothers everywhere.
We have many relationships with people around us that we cherish. But, the most important, loved, the pure and divine relationship is that of a mother and child. A mother’s selfless love, care, and affection make it the most significant and Godly relationship. God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers. We say that God created mankind but our mothers created us. A mother not only gives us life but does our upbringing and also protects us. Thus, she is our Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh.
From the time when a mother conceives her child, she gets emotionally attached to the child. A child is only the flesh and blood of her. She undergoes immense pain while delivering a child. Yet, she can never see her child in pain or any problem.
She is the protective shield and safeguards her child in all situations. She spends sleepless nights while raising her child but never complains. Her feelings, emotions, love, care, and affection are completely incomparable and selfless.
When we spoke for the first time, the first word that comes out of our mouth is the mother, ‘Maa’ and when we are small, it is the mother who teaches us to walk and tells us the difference between good and bad.
A mother is the epitome of love, generosity, sacrifice, and affection. Her presence on the earth provides solace to the enduring humankind. A Mother’s smiling face removes all sorrows and stress of the world.
Mothers are our life philosophers with selfless love. Mothers make us, kids, become especially thoughtful about the nature of life. Among all the lovely things in the nature, mothers are the most rare and precious. Like Henry Ward Beecher, the 19th century American Congregationalist Clergyman, once said that, “The mothers’ heart is the child’s schoolroom.” We are influenced by our mothers throughout our life. We might forget the words that our mother say to us but we always remember the feeling that she gave us.
It is just to say that the bond of a mother and her child is so special that it is cherished forever, by children and their mothers. One day is not enough to celebrate motherhood and we should make everyday as special as Mother’s day to shower our love upon our mothers. We should acknowledge all the little things that our mothers do for us everyday. No other gift can be more special to a mother than her children’s love and respect. So, this Mother’s day, let us pledge to make everyday special for our mothers and fill her days with warmth and joy.
