Once there was a farmer in a small village who grew the most excellent wheat in his field and for that he won the best wheat production in his country every year. An official came to him and asked about his success. The farmer replied that the key for his achievement was sharing his best seeds with his neighbor so that they could plant the best quality seed as well. The official was surprised by his answer and asked him how he can share the best seed with his neighbor who was his competitor too. The farmer replied that it’s simple, the wind spreads the pollen from everyone’s wheat and carries it from field to field, so if his neighbor grew inferior seeds then cross pollination will degrade the quality of wheat of everyone including him. So if I want to grow the best wheat, I must help my neighbors grow the best wheat as well and this is not advice for growing the best crops, but also great advice for how to live your life.
This story teaches us to understand the importance of learning and sharing with society. If one wants to grow then he must also help others to grow by his learning because if others grow by your learning you will grow more. A beautiful line said by Simon Sinek that -“A community is a group of people who agree to grow together”. So sharing your learning with others is helpful in updating yourself and growing more.
Taking the example from network marketing companies, where the people share their learning with members and this sharing is helpful to all in updating themselves and to gain knowledge about the products and customers and also know how to communicate with the prospects. Companies provide training to their employees in which an instructor shares their learning with the candidate and also takes their feedback and their opinion which is fruitful in decision making and success of training. A well- known saying is – “If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it” — Margaret Fuller. So if you want to live a meaningful and happy life, sharing is important.
Still water develops germs in it whereas flowing water is clean and suitable for drinking. Similarly having knowledge is useless if it is not shared with others for growth, peace and happiness of all. Parents share their learning and experiences with their children to make them aware and help them in their growth and thinking ability. Teachers share their learning with students to build their future bright. Good friends are one who share their learning with each other and help to grow and find happiness and get success.
Development of new technology and innovation is meaningless if it is not shared for peace, love, hope and happiness of society. These are shared by different nations with one another for achieving the sustainable growth and development of each and every individual and nation around the world.
Learning and sharing is a key to living a meaningful and happy life and the value of your life is measured by the lives you touch with love, kindness, respect and hope.
