Desk : Former US Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday indicated that she may consider another run for the presidency in 2028, saying she is “thinking about it.”

Harris made the remarks during an interaction at a gathering of the National Action Network in New York, founded by civil rights leader Al Sharpton. Responding to a direct question from Sharpton on whether she would contest again, Harris said, “I might, I might. I’m thinking about it,” drawing applause from the audience.

She added that any decision would depend on assessing who, in 2028, would be best positioned to serve the American people effectively.

Harris, who served as Vice President under Joe Biden, was the Democratic Party’s nominee in the 2024 presidential election. She lost to Donald Trump, who secured victory in both the popular vote and the Electoral College.

Before her vice presidency, Harris served as a US Senator from California and as the state’s Attorney General. She had also mounted an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.

Her potential 2028 candidacy could face headwinds, as sections of Democratic voters, according to recent polling trends, have expressed a preference for new leadership following the party’s 2024 defeat.

The National Action Network event also saw the participation of several other Democratic leaders seen as potential contenders, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.
