Washington: America’s newly elected President Joe Biden has announced the names of additional members of the White House’s communications and press staff. It named Indian American Vedanta Patel as assistant press secretary.
Patel is currently a senior spokesperson for Biden’s inaugural committee and has also been a part of the Biden campaign, in which he served as regional communications director. He has previously served as the Director of Communications for Indian-American Congress Member Pramila Jaipal. Patel was born in the Indian state of Gujarat and raised in California.
Patel is a graduate of University of California-Riverside Three Indian-Americans have been appointed in White House as press officers so far, including Patel. Priya Singh was the first Indian American among White House press officials, she was the press secretary in the Obama administration from January 2009 to May 2010. Subsequently, from 2017 to 2019, Raj Shah served as Deputy Press Secretary and Deputy Assistant to the President at the White House. Biden appointed 16 people, including Patel, as White House Communications and press officials on Friday.
