New Delhi : External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a detailed discussion with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday, focusing on the latest developments in the ongoing West Asia conflict. This marks the third interaction between the two leaders since tensions escalated between the US-Israel alliance and Iran.
Sharing details on X, Jaishankar said, “A detailed conversation this evening with Foreign Minister @araghchi of Iran on the latest developments regarding the ongoing conflict. We agreed to remain in touch.” The two leaders had earlier spoken on February 28 and March 5.
In a parliamentary statement on Monday, Jaishankar expressed India’s deep concern over the escalating situation and urged all parties to exercise restraint, avoid further escalation, and prioritize the safety of civilians. “We continue to believe that dialogue and diplomacy are essential to de-escalate tensions and address underlying issues. Respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states in the region is imperative,” he said.
Addressing the conflict’s impact on India’s energy security, the External Affairs Minister emphasized, “The interests of the Indian consumer have and will always be the overriding priority. Indian diplomacy has actively supported our energy enterprises in navigating this volatile situation.”
Jaishankar outlined India’s three guiding principles in dealing with the crisis: advocating for peace, promoting dialogue and diplomacy, and prioritizing the safety of civilians. “The well-being and security of the Indian community in the region is our overriding concern. We will continue to work closely with governments in the region to ensure this,” he added.
Reiterating India’s strategic priorities, Jaishankar affirmed, “Our national interests, including energy security and trade flows, will always remain paramount.”
