Beirut: Israeli jets flew very low over parts of Lebanon early Friday, causing panic and some of them even reported seeing missiles in the skies over Beirut. Minutes later, Syrian official news agency reported explosions in the city of Masyaf in central Syria. Other Syrian media organizations said Syrian air security forces retaliated against Israel’s attack near Hama province.
There is no information about who was targeted or how many people have been killed. Israeli jets regularly violate Lebanese airspace and have often struck inside Syria from Lebanese territory. Residents of Beirut got terrified due to these attacks on Christmas eve. No immediate statement has been issued by Israel regarding Friday’s incident or the alleged attacks on Syria.
At the same time, Syria said that the Israeli Air Force has attacked from Lebanese airspace in Syria’s Hama province, to which the air defense system of the Arab Republic has responded. This information was given by the Syrian Ministry of Defense on Friday. “At 4.40 this morning, Israeli jets fired missiles from Lebanese airspace towards the city of Tripoli and Masayaf in Hama province,” the ministry said. According to the ministry, Syria’s defense system shot down missiles fired by Israel.
At least six Iran-backed fighters have been killed in this attack. A war watchdog has given this information. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that all foreigners fighting with President Bashar al-Assad’s army were paramilitary.
