Dubai: The UAE Fatwa Council, the top Islamic body of the Arab Emirates (UAE), has justified the corona virus vaccines for Muslims even after the use of gelatin of pork in it.
Pork gelatin is commonly used in vaccines, and this has led to a growing concern among Muslims who consider the use of pork products under Islamic law to be forbidden (Haram).
If there are no alternatives, Council Chairman Sheikh Abdallah bin Bayyah said that the corona virus vaccines would not be subject to Islam’s restrictions on pork because of the higher need to protect the human body. In this case, the pork gelatin is considered medicine, not food.
