Ingredients for Instant Kalakand
To make this tasty Kalakand at home, you will need:
- Milk (1.5 liters)
- Bread (around 10 slices)
- Sugar (about 6 tablespoons or as per taste)
- Dry fruits of your choice
- A few strands of saffron
- Water (as needed)
How to Make Kalakand with Bread and Milk
- Boil the Milk: Start by heating a pan on the stove and pouring in the milk. Make sure there is no cream (malai) in the milk. Add sugar and mix well. Keep about half a cup of this milk separately for later use.
- Thicken the Milk: Boil the remaining milk until it reduces to half. Once it becomes thick like Rabri, turn off the heat. Add saffron-soaked milk for color and a little cream to give it a grainy texture. Let it cool.
- Prepare the Bread Slices: Take bread slices and remove the thick edges using a knife.
- Layering: Take a large tray and spread a layer of the prepared Rabri evenly. Place the bread slices on top and pour some of the reserved sugar-milk mixture over them. Add another layer of bread slices, followed by more milk and Rabri. Repeat this process to create cake-like layers.
- Set in the Refrigerator: Cover the tray with aluminum foil and refrigerate for 2-3 hours to let it set properly.
- Garnish and Serve: Once set, garnish with chopped dry fruits and cut into small pieces like Kalakand.
Your delicious, grainy Kalakand is now ready to enjoy!
