Desk:India strongly countered Pakistan at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) meeting in Geneva on Wednesday after Pakistan accused India of suppressing democracy and violating human rights in Jammu and Kashmir. India dismissed these allegations as baseless and malicious. Indian Ambassador Kriti Tyagi called out Pakistan’s hypocrisy, stating that Pakistan itself is plagued by human rights violations and is in no position to lecture others.
“India is responding to Pakistan’s baseless and malicious allegations. It is unfortunate that Pakistan’s so-called leaders and representatives continue to spread lies dictated by their military-terrorist establishment,” Tyagi said.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Law, Justice, and Human Rights Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar had alleged that the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people was being violated, claiming that this contravened the UN Charter, its resolutions, and international law. He also stated that human rights violations in the region must be stopped.
In response, India reiterated its sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir and highlighted the region’s progress. “Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. The unprecedented political, social, and economic development in the region over the past few years is itself evidence of this. These achievements demonstrate the people’s trust in government efforts to restore normalcy in a region that has long suffered from Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,” Tyagi asserted.
He further urged Pakistan to focus on governance and justice for its own people instead of targeting India. “A country where human rights violations, persecution of minorities, and the weakening of democratic values are state policies, and which shelters UN-designated terrorists, is in no position to lecture anyone,” he said.
“Pakistan’s speech is filled with hypocrisy. Its actions are inhumane and reflect its governance failure. India remains committed to democracy, progress, and the dignity of its people – values that Pakistan should learn from,” Tyagi concluded.
Earlier on Monday, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had also addressed the UNHRC, emphasizing that India has always played an active role in the global promotion and protection of human rights while remaining firm and resolute in its fight against terrorism.
