New Delhi: India on Tuesday advised all other BRICS stakeholders including China for a clear, coordinated and undifferentiated response to terrorism in the backdrop of Taliban surge in Afghanistan.
Addressing BRICS Academic Forum on Tuesday ahead of the September Summit hosted by India, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar cautioned, “The transition in Afghanistan that we are seeing today and the warfare that has yet again been forced upon its people has sharpened this challenge. Left unattended, its edge will be deeply felt not just in Afghanistan’s neighbourhood but well beyond. We are therefore all stakeholders in the quest for a clear, coordinated and undifferentiated response to terrorism. In the 21st century, legitimacy cannot be derived from mass violence, brutal intimidation or covert agendas. Representation, inclusion, peace and stability are inextricably linked.”
This statement by India comes less than a week after China entered into an arrangement with Taliban wherein Taliban was asked to give an assurance not to aid East Turkestan Islamic Movement and in return Beijing sought to legitimise the Taliban.
