Desk:India and the United States are set to conduct a large-scale joint military exercise, ‘Tiger Triumph,’ covering land, sea, and air operations. This exercise will not only showcase combat skills but also establish new benchmarks in disaster management. Scheduled from April 2 to April 13, the drills will take place along the eastern coast, specifically in Visakhapatnam and Kakinada.
The primary objective of ‘Tiger Triumph’ is to enhance coordination and operational capabilities between the two forces in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions. A joint coordination center will also be set up to enable swift and effective responses during crises or emergencies.
The Indian contingent will include naval assets such as INS Jalashwa, INS Gharial, INS Mumbai, and INS Shakti. The Indian Air Force will deploy C-130 aircraft and MI-17 helicopters, while the Army will be represented by the 91 Infantry Brigade and the Rapid Action Medical Team. On the American side, the USS Comstock and USS Ralph Johnson warships, along with US Marine Corps personnel, will participate.
This exercise comes at a time when the Indian Army is actively engaged in assisting earthquake victims in Myanmar. Previous editions of ‘Tiger Triumph’ were conducted in 2019, 2021, and 2022. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force is also participating in the multinational air exercise ‘Iniochos-25’ in Greece, where Su-30 MKI fighter jets have been deployed.
Why It Matters
Experts believe that ‘Tiger Triumph’ will play a crucial role in strengthening India-US strategic partnership, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. This exercise is expected to revolutionize disaster management and humanitarian aid operations between the two nations.
