Desk:India’s stance towards Bangladesh seems to be getting stricter. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has made it clear that Bangladesh must decide what kind of relationship it wants with India. His remarks come after his meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart in Muscat, where he also raised concerns about attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.
According to media reports, Jaishankar stated, “Every day, someone from the interim government stands up and blames India for everything. On one hand, you say you want good relations with us, but on the other hand, you hold us responsible for every wrongdoing. You cannot do this. They have to make a decision.”
Jaishankar also expressed concerns over the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, saying, “Such incidents naturally influence our thinking. This is something we need to speak about, and we have already done so. The other aspect is that they are engaging in politics. However, at the end of the day, both countries are neighbors.”
He further added, “They must decide what kind of relationship they want with us. Our ties with Bangladesh have a deep-rooted history, dating back to 1971.”
Earlier on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed questions regarding anti-India comments from advisors in Bangladesh’s interim government. He said, “Yes, we have clearly taken note of such remarks, which are certainly not helpful. It is up to the concerned individuals to consider the implications for their respective domains.”
