New Delhi: Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Indian government has taken several strong measures against Pakistan. There was initial speculation about the suspension of visas for Pakistani nationals. However, the Ministry of External Affairs clarified on Thursday that all existing valid visas issued by India to Pakistani nationals will not be affected, including Long Term Visas (LTV) issued to Hindu Pakistani nationals.
According to the Ministry’s official statement, “In reference to the decision to suspend visa services for Pakistani nationals by the Indian government on April 24, 2025, it is clarified that this decision will not apply to Long Term Visas (LTV) already issued to Hindu Pakistani nationals. These visas will remain valid.”
As per the Ministry’s decision, all existing valid visas issued to Pakistani nationals by India will be considered cancelled from April 27, 2025. Medical visas will remain valid only until April 29, 2025. Pakistani nationals currently in India must depart before their visa expiration. The closure of the Atari-Wagah check post has been immediately enforced.
This stringent decision follows the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists. Responsibility for the attack has been attributed to The Resistance Front (TRF), a front organization for the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
In response, India has also expelled Pakistani military officials and suspended the Indus Waters Treaty.
