Desk : United Nations. India has taken a strong stand against Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council over the situation in Afghanistan. India condemned Pakistan’s airstrikes inside Afghanistan, the forced return of refugees, and trade restrictions, calling them violations of international law and the United Nations Charter.
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Harish Parvathaneni, said during the Security Council meeting that such military actions are deeply concerning at a time when Afghanistan is already facing a severe humanitarian crisis. He stressed that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations must be respected and that targeting civilians is unacceptable under any circumstances.
India also expressed serious concern over civilian casualties caused by the reported airstrikes. The Indian representative noted that a large number of innocent people, including women and children, were killed in these attacks, which goes against the principles of international humanitarian law.
During the meeting, India also criticized the trade restrictions imposed on Afghanistan. According to India, blocking trade and transit routes for a landlocked country would worsen its economic and humanitarian situation. India warned that such measures could further destabilize the region.
India reiterated that it stands firmly with the people of Afghanistan and will continue its support in areas such as development, healthcare, education, and capacity building. India highlighted that it has been assisting Afghanistan through hundreds of development projects across different provinces.
Meanwhile, the United States has taken a separate step by designating Afghanistan as a “state sponsor of wrongful detention.” Washington has demanded the immediate release of American citizens allegedly held by the Taliban and warned that such actions would not be tolerated.
India has urged the international community to work together to improve the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and ensure stability in the region.
