India sees arrest of Terrorist Lakhvi by Pak Govt as intended to dodge global terror watchdog FATF’s Black List

New Delhi: Zaki Ur Rehman Lakhvi, the conspirator of the Mumbai attack, has been arrested by the Pakistan government in an attempt to improve its image in the meetings of the global watchdog FATF (Financial Action Task Force). But the charge on which Lakhvi was arrested on Saturday opens the barrage of Pakistan rulers. Not only this, Pakistan seems to be stuck in its own woven net this time. In fact, Lakhvi has been accused of raising money for terrorist activities through a private agency.

While Pakistan has been crying before the FATF for the last two years that it has closed all means to stop terrorist funding.

Indian officials questioned the seriousness of the actions, saying it had become routine for Pakistan to showcase arrests of key terrorist figures just before FATF meetings.

The next meeting of the FATF is to be held in February in which Pakistan will review the actions taken against terrorist organizations and terrorists during the last three months. Sources in Indian intelligence agencies believe that even when Pakistan comes under international pressure earlier, it pretends to take action against Saeed, Rehman and other terrorists and they are released a few days later.

Saeed has been arrested at least four times in the last 10 years, while on Saturday, Rahman has a second arrest after five years. Zaki-ur-Rehman, the main terrorist of the Mumbai attack, was arrested in Pakistan in 2009 for plotting the Mumbai attack and was released on bail in 2015. This is also being done this time. Similarly, after the Pathankot attack, Maulana Masood Azhar was arrested and later released. This has been done many times.
