India pledges its full support to Bangladesh on the Issue of Rohingya Return

New Delhi: The virtual summit between the Prime Minister of India and Bangladesh emphasized strengthening cooperation between the two countries in several key areas. Strong ties between India and Bangladesh will also enhance cooperation on issues related to terrorism and security while taking care of each other’s interests including infrastructure development, expansion of connectivity. India has also promised full cooperation to Bangladesh on the issue of Rohingya return.

Apart from this, India and Bangladesh have agreed on water sharing of Kushiyara river. Bangladesh has requested India to allow excavation work on the remaining part of Rahimpur Khal for the use of Kushiara river water for irrigation. Bangladesh has expressed interest in the ongoing Myanmar Thailand trilateral highway project in India. India has requested Bangladesh to allow connectivity from West Bengal to Meghalaya (Mahendraganj) via Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has requested to provide 1.3 km of safe passage-Innocent Passage along the Padma River near Rajshahi district. Bangladesh PM Hasina requested the Indian side to consider Bangladesh’s proposal to name the historic road from Mujib Nagar in Meherpur district to Nodia in India’s West Bengal as “Shadhinota Shorok”, commemorating the historic significance of the road during Bangladesh’s Liberation War.

Apart from this, the filming of the biopic on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the direction of Indian film director Shyam Benegal will start in January 2021. India, Bangladesh, agree to strengthen cooperation with Nepal and Bhutan on the energy sector.

PM Modi appreciated the generosity of Bangladesh

PM Narendra Modi lauded Bangladesh’s generosity for providing refuge to Rohingya refugees. Both sides have also agreed for the safe, speedy and sustainable return of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar. India has extended several points of economic cooperation, inviting Bangladesh to join the New Development Bank (BRICS Bank).The beautification and town development project at Rajshahi City and construction of Khalispur Collegiate Girls School at Khulna were also inaugurated during the virtual summit.
