Islamabad: Pakistan and India on Friday handed over the list of their nuclear installations to each other. This is done every year under a bilateral agreement between the two countries. The aim is to prevent them from attacking each other’s nuclear Facilities.
The Pakistan Foreign Office issued a statement saying that the exchange of this list was done as per Article-II of the agreement between India and Pakistan on ‘Prohibition of Attack against Nuclear Installations and Facilities between India and Pakistan’. The agreement was signed on 31 December 1988.
“The list related to Pakistan’s nuclear installations and Facilities was officially handed over to a representative of the Indian High Commission at the Ministry of External Affairs at 11 am today,” the statement said.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi handed over the list of Indian Nuclear installations and facilities to a representative of the Pakistan High Commission at 11:30 am,” it added.
The agreement provides that the two countries will inform each other about their nuclear installations and facilities on January 1 each year. Despite the tensions between India and Pakistan, the two countries have provided this information to each other.
