Ottawa: A recent attack on a Hindu temple in Canada by Khalistan supporters has sparked growing controversy, with India expressing strong disapproval of the incident. Following the attack, the Indian High Commission issued a statement condemning the actions of anti-India elements. Video footage of the incident shows individuals carrying Khalistani flags, assaulting people outside the temple. The High Commission further stated that the regular functioning of the consulate is being disrupted by such acts and expressed disappointment that adequate measures to prevent these attacks have not been taken.
In its statement, the High Commission emphasized that such events are organized with the help of local co-organizers and expressed concern for the safety of Indian citizens and applicants involved in these programs. Despite efforts by anti-India groups, the consulate was still able to issue over 1,000 life certificates to Indian and Canadian applicants. The statement also noted that, in light of the current situation, Canadian authorities had already been asked to provide enhanced security for these events.
The attack occurred at the Hindu Mahasabha Temple in Brampton, where several Khalistan supporters entered the premises and assaulted worshippers. A video of the incident shows individuals attacking people inside the temple’s compound. Indian-origin Canadian MP Chandra Arya expressed his anger over the attack, while Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also expressed regret over the incident.
