UNSC: India Says Pakistan Has No Moral Right to Talk on Civilian Protection

New York: India launched a sharp attack on Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), accusing it of promoting terrorism, carrying out deadly airstrikes on civilians in Afghanistan, and running anti-India disinformation campaigns. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Harish Parvathaneni, said Pakistan has a long-standing habit of deflecting attention from its internal failures by blaming its neighbours and creating false narratives.

Speaking during a UNSC meeting on the situation in Afghanistan, India criticized Pakistan’s reported use of the term “Fitna-al-Hindustan” for militant groups operating within its territory, describing it as a state-sponsored disinformation campaign. India argued that the use of religious terminology to spread misleading narratives and misinform the international community was irresponsible and dangerous.

The Indian envoy said such efforts amounted to a “factory of hate” designed to divert public attention from Pakistan’s domestic political and economic challenges while sustaining hostility towards India. He added that the international community is increasingly aware of Pakistan’s pattern of shifting blame onto neighbouring countries.

India also expressed serious concern over Pakistan’s airstrikes in Afghanistan, stating that civilian casualties cannot be justified by labeling such actions as counter-terrorism operations. Parvathaneni said that the killing and injuring of innocent civilians and the suffering inflicted on families, including children, cannot be excused under any circumstances.

Further, India accused Pakistan of engaging in what it termed “trade and transit terrorism” against Afghanistan. According to India, creating obstacles to the movement of goods and transit access for landlocked Afghanistan runs contrary to the principles of regional cooperation and international obligations.

Calling for a united global response, India urged the international community to adopt a firm stance against terrorism in all its forms and against those who support or sponsor it. The Indian representative also emphasized the importance of protecting civilians, respecting international law, and ensuring regional stability.
