India and Bangladesh having bilateral talks in virtual summit

New Delhi: India and Bangladesh are having bilateral talks through video conferencing today. In this virtual summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, 9 agreements are expected to be signed between the two countries in many areas.

At the same time, both leaders witnessed the reopening of the old rail route Chilahati-Haldibari railroad after 55 years. Both of them inaugurated this railroad again that was closed during the 1965 war.

India and Bangladesh have maintained regular dialogues at the highest level, with the Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina paid an official visit to India in the month of October of 2019, while PM Modi also released a video message on the historic occasion of Mujib Borsho (year) in March 2020. Both leaders have remained in regular touch during the COVID pandemic.

PM Modi said, “Our meeting today immediately after Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) has special significance. It is a matter of pride for us to celebrate Bangladesh’s historic victory over anti-Liberation forces as Victory Day with you.”

PM Modi further said that during the Corona period, there has been good cooperation of India-Bangladesh, both will continue to cooperate in the vaccine work as well.

“Both the countries are emphasizing on connectivity, which shows our friendship. India always respects the Banga Bandhu (brothers). I would like to say thanks for the invitation to visit Bangladesh next year,” PM Modi added.

Here, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “I appreciate you (PM Modi) for the way your government has fought Covid-19. At the same time, I pay deep tribute to those 30 lakh martyrs who laid down their lives. I pay tribute to the members of the Indian armed forces who died in the 1971 war. I thank the Indian Government and the people of India who wholeheartedly supported our liberation.
