An Economics graduate from Bihar, Priyanka Gupta, gave competitive exams and also tried to land a job but she failed despite her two years of hard work. Instead of sitting at home, she decided to make the best of her circumstances and opened a tea stall near the Women’s College in Patna.
“There are many chaiwallas. Why can’t there be a chaiwali?” said Ms Gupta.
Her tea stall’s menu has five items – masala, chocolate and paan chai for Rs 20 each, kulhad chai for Rs 15 and cookies for Rs 10. There is a small stove on which an aluminium kettle is placed. Students are seen milling around her, waiting for hot tea to be poured for them.
A large poster at her tea stall has the words written on them: “An initiative towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat… Chaiwali welcomes you, be infused – tea, love and happiness.”
After succeeding in her tea selling business, Priyanka has now decided to upgrade herself and start a food truck too. She’s not giving up on the tea venture either; the food truck will sell tea along with snacks. Reportedly, Gupta was offered the food truck by way of help from someone after she had gone viral on social media and made headlines. Initially, she had refused the offer but relented later on, but on the condition that she would paying the money for the truck gradually.
On her food truck, Gupta plans to hire a professional tea-maker. Till now, she has single-handedly managed all of the work at the tea stall, but at the food truck, she plans to hire other people too. She said that the truck will arrive soon. Along with tea, a few different snacks will be sold at the food truck.
Her eyes sparkle with confidence when she said, “I may not hold a prestigious job to flaunt in my social circle but I dared to dream, chartered my own path and made my own money. That’s all that matters. Right?”
Graduate Chaiwali Priyanka Gupta is the living example that success comes to those who dare to take the risk and pursue what their heart wants, not what the society expects from them.
