Spring rolls are a popular and easily available snack that many people love to enjoy. But instead of always buying them from the market, why not try making them at home? Homemade spring rolls not only taste better but also come packed with a flavorful, desi-style stuffing that’s hard to resist.
Here’s how you can make delicious desi-style spring rolls at home:
Ingredients Needed:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- 2 tablespoons cornflour
- 4-5 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1 small capsicum, chopped
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons chili sauce
- ½ teaspoon black pepper powder
- Salt to taste
- ½ cup flour paste (for sealing rolls)
- Oil (for frying)
How to Make Spring Rolls:
1. Prepare the Wrappers:
In a large bowl, mix 2 cups of flour, 2 tablespoons cornflour, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add water to make a smooth batter. Heat a lightly greased pan, pour one spoonful of batter, and spread it evenly to form a thin sheet. Cook lightly until set. Prepare all the wrappers in the same way.
2. Make the Stuffing:
Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a wok. Add chopped garlic and green chilies, sauté for a few seconds. Add half a chopped onion and stir-fry on high flame. Now add the julienned carrot, shredded cabbage, and capsicum. Sauté briefly while keeping the veggies crisp. Add vinegar, soy sauce, chili sauce, black pepper powder, and salt. Mix well. The stuffing is ready.
3. Assemble the Rolls:
Take one spring roll sheet, place a spoonful of the stuffing in the center. Apply flour paste along the edges. Roll it tightly and fold in the sides, sealing well to avoid bursting during frying.
4. Fry the Rolls:
Heat oil on low-medium flame. Fry the rolls until golden brown and crisp. Drain on tissue paper.
