Washington: President Donald Trump reiterated his desire to annex Greenland on Friday, stating that the United States must take control of the strategically significant, resource-rich Danish territory for the sake of “world peace.”
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump emphasized that his administration’s interest in Greenland was not merely for America’s benefit but for global stability and security. “We are not talking about peace just for the United States. We are talking about world peace. We are talking about international security,” he declared.
Trump’s remarks came as Vice President JD Vance and other high-ranking U.S. officials were visiting a military base in Greenland, signaling a renewed push for U.S. involvement in the Arctic region. The island, the world’s largest non-continental landmass, holds vast reserves of natural resources, including rare earth minerals, oil, and gas, making it a key asset in global geopolitics.
Denmark, which governs Greenland as an autonomous territory, has previously rejected the idea of selling the island. However, Trump’s statements indicate that his administration views Greenland as a crucial element in U.S. military and economic strategy.
While Denmark and Greenlandic officials have dismissed previous U.S. attempts to purchase the island, Trump’s latest comments suggest that Washington may continue pursuing avenues to expand its influence in the region.
