Desk:Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a significant statement on Sunday regarding the ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza. He asserted that Israel’s increasing military pressure on Hamas is proving highly effective. Emphasizing his stance, he stated that the Palestinian militant group must lay down its arms.
During a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said, “We are negotiating amid the gunfire. It is evident that cracks are emerging in Hamas’ demands.” He dismissed claims that Israel is unwilling to discuss a deal for the release of hostages but stressed that Hamas must surrender its weapons.
Netanyahu further added, “We are ready. Hamas must disarm. Its leaders will be allowed to leave Gaza.” He reiterated that Israel aims to ensure security in Gaza and would focus on implementing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s voluntary migration plan. This plan, announced shortly after Trump took office, proposed relocating over 2 million Gazans to neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan. However, this proposal faced significant international criticism.
Hamas Accepts New Ceasefire Proposal
Meanwhile, Hamas has accepted a new ceasefire proposal mediated by Egypt and Qatar. However, Israel has stated that it has drafted a separate proposal in full coordination with the third mediator, the United States. Egypt had put forward this ceasefire initiative earlier this week in an attempt to revive peace talks.
Hamas leader in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya, confirmed the group’s acceptance of the deal, but it remains unclear whether any modifications were made before the announcement. Around ten days ago, Israel had resumed airstrikes on Hamas after ending a previous ceasefire agreement, resulting in hundreds of casualties. The White House blamed Hamas for reigniting the conflict.
