Desk: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked a new debate by stating that America will soon take control of Gaza. During his recent meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week, Trump reiterated this statement. His remarks have caused unrest among Muslim nations, with countries like Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia strongly objecting to his plan. In response, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are planning to convene an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss the Gaza situation.
On Monday, top leaders of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia held talks on the Gaza issue. During the discussion, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud agreed to call an emergency OIC meeting to address developments related to Gaza. Earlier, groups like Hamas had also demanded an urgent Arab summit on the matter.
During their phone conversation, both leaders condemned Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s statement suggesting the establishment of a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia called Netanyahu’s remarks irresponsible, provocative, and offensive. Notably, Netanyahu had recently stated that Palestinians should establish their state in Saudi Arabia instead of seeking one in their own region. In an interview with Israel’s Channel 14, Netanyahu said, “Saudi Arabia has a lot of land where they can create a Palestinian state.”
Earlier, Trump had also declared that the U.S. plans to take control of Gaza. He suggested the evacuation of Palestinians from Gaza, calling it a “wonderful place with great potential.” Trump further stated that Palestinians should be relocated to Egypt and Jordan. His remarks have triggered concerns over the future of Gaza’s 2 million residents, raising fears of mass displacement.
