New DelhiWhile interacting with the South Indian community in Delhi, Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar raised serious concerns about the lack of basic amenities in the national capital. He mentioned that when traveling abroad, he feels embarrassed to tell people that the people of Delhi are still deprived of essential services.
He said, “Whenever I travel abroad, the governments there ask me about the large-scale developments happening in India. They know that people get free rations, housing, electricity, water, and gas cylinders. This is a huge number. If you see, the number of people receiving homes is more than the entire population of Japan. The number of people receiving gas cylinders is more than the population of Germany. I proudly present this to the world.”
Dr. Jaishankar continued, “But there is one thing I hide from the world, and I feel embarrassed to say it. I am ashamed to say that in the capital of India, people do not get homes. I feel ashamed to say that people living in the capital are deprived of gas cylinders, tap water under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and benefits from Ayushman Bharat schemes. It is unfortunate that Delhi has lagged behind in the past 10 years.”
Attacking the Delhi government ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, Dr. Jaishankar stated that the residents of Delhi are not being provided their rights. He added, “The residents of Delhi are being deprived of water, electricity, gas cylinders, and health services. If the government here is not giving you your rights, then on February 5th, it is important to think about replacing this government.”
Dr. Jaishankar’s remarks come at a time when political activities are intensifying ahead of the upcoming elections in Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has long accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of failing to implement central government schemes and depriving people of their rightful benefits.
